Havana, Oct 23 (ACN) The Secretary of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) Homero Acosta conveyed Japanese ambassador to Cuba Hirata Kenji the island’s willingness to consolidate bilateral links between both nations and the two parliaments in particular.
The meeting was held at Havana’s Capitol building where Acosta thanked the Japanese diplomat for his country’s traditional stance in favor of the Cuban resolution presented every year at the UN National Assembly against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Cuban people, according to the Cuban Parliament’s website.
The Cuban official also said that both countries share a long and productive relationship, enhanced by two visits to Japan by the historic leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro and by the visit to Havana of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2016.
He also stressed the existing potential for both nations to increase commercial, scientific, cultural, academic and sport exchange and acknowledged the donations and support by Japan to Cuba.
The Japanese ambassador on his part said that despite the geographic distance between the two countries, Japan will keep supporting the Cuban people, particularly under the current complex scenario facing the Caribbean island nation.
Hirata Kenji was also interested in the role of the Cuban parliament amidst the island’s current situation as well as in the implementation of the Constitution proclaimed on April 10, 2019.
