Syrian and Cuban Officials Stress Success of G-77 Summit



Havana, Sept 18 (ACN) Cuban deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Trade and Investment, Ricardo Cabrisas, and Syria’s Finance Minister Doctor Kinan Yaghi agreed that the recent Havana Summit of the Group of 77 plus China was successful and favored the strengthening of unity among its member states.

Yaghi stressed that the final declaration adopted by the summit will result in the benefit to the development and consolidation of South-South cooperation.

The Cuban official said that the most important about the summit was the prevalence of unity with regards to issues so significant as those related to science, technology and innovation, as well as others which are part of everyday life in developing nations.

He noted that unity is crucial to jointly face current challenges in which Cuba already has the experience of its resistance against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade.

Cabrisas said that the G-77 plus China Summit has not concluded, it’s still underway given the commitment and actions to undertake in different areas, in defense of the Global South.

Meanwhile, the Syrian official noted that challenges emerging from the advancement of science, innovation and technology are closely linked to food security, climate change and other issues. He said that his meeting with Cabrisas took place following the suggestions and guidelines that emerged from the summit aiming at further strengthen bilateral cooperation relations between Cuba and Syria.

The meeting was attended by Fadi Al Khalil, president of the Authority for Planning and International Cooperation, and Ghassan Obeid, Syrian ambassador to Havana. On the Cuban side was deputy minister for Foreign Trade and Investment, Deborah Rivas.
