HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 3 (ACN) China and Cuba strengthened their ties in the field of neurosciences with a visit by scientists from the island, who met with their counterparts in the People’s Republic.
The Cuban delegation—headed by the president of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Dr. Luis Velazquez Perez; the director of the Institute of Neurosciences, Dr. Mitchell Valdes; and the director of the China-Cuba Joint Laboratory of Neurotechnology in Chengdu, Dr. Pedro Valdés—visited the Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Mental Health Center.
Through a videoconference, Cuban Professor Pedro Valdés received the Erwin Roy John Award granted him during the Basic and Clinical Imaging Congress, held in Istanbul, Turkey. This distinction, given to scientists for lifetime achievements in neuroimaging, recognized the work of the director of the joint China-Cuba laboratory located in the southwestern city of Chengdu.
This entity is another one in the group of China-based centers engaged in various research and development projects operated jointly by the two governments.
