Nueva Gerona, Cuba, April 7 (ACN) Carnivours (insectivorous) plants are being preserved as they grow at the Los Indios ecological reserve, in the central-eastern region of the Isle of Youth, south of mainland Cuba.
For Jose Angel Osorio, a worker at the protected, ecological reserve, the highest value of the area stems from its white sandy soil and the large number of flora species, including insectivorous plants.
The plants belongs to two families scientifically known as Droseraceae and Lentibulariaceae growing in this reserve which is one of the most important 77 areas of its kind in the country because it also shelter for different indigenous bird species.
The Cuban archipelago has an estimate 7 thousand flora species with 53 of them being indigenous which tells about the high endemism level of the country.
