Cuban Vessel Registry marks its 40th anniversary

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 21 (ACN) The Cuban Registry of Ships (RCB by its Spanish acronym) marks its 40th anniversary today with positive results in ensuring the safety of navigation and human life at sea, in addition to the conservation of the environment, its general director, Jose Carlos Ramirez Vazquez, said.

During four decades the entity integrated to the Port Maritime Transport Business Group has attended all spheres of the country's economy, by performing inspection and classification services of ships and maritime facilities, he added.

One of the main medium-term projections is to become a leading classification society in Latin America and the Caribbean and to continue strengthening its business lines by increasing the technical and professional standards of its personnel, Ramirez remarked.

In previous years, RCB supervised the construction of the lifting facilities at the port of Mariel and at the multipurpose dock terminal in Santiago de Cuba, as well as provided shipbuilding supervision services in other nations.

As a classification society dedicated to the certification of vessels and docks in Cuba, it was the first state-owned company in the Caribbean island to certify its quality systems according to ISO 9001 standards in 1996, and its system is currently validated by the National Standardization Office and international organizations.
