CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Jan 5 (ACN) The Commander of the Revolution and Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ramiro Valdés Menéndez urged the managers and workers of the “26 de Julio” cement factory to be more conscientious about, and more committed to, the ongoing investment process to modernize this facility, deemed to be strategic and extremely important to our socioeconomic development and therefore contingent on its labor force’s support to make up for the delays in its construction.
Executives of the construction sector and provincial party and government leaders met to discuss issues related to the existing payroll, the working conditions, the use of digging and earth-moving machinery, and the availability of resources, means and tools, either made in Cuba or imported.
Valdés Menéndez asked about the use of earth-moving and digging equipment in the works, and learned that the investment currently employs 1,000 of the 1,500 workers it needs.
“In order to have the expected remuneration, the workers must keep the required productivity level,” said the Commander of the Revolution in reference to the need to break the existing inertia and speed up construction.
This investment covers 45 objects of work, of which 20 are under way and 25 are yet to begin, according to construction authorities. Entities from several provinces are engaged in the effort.
Designed by Ernesto Che Guevara when he was Ministry of Industry, the “26 de Julio” cement factory was inaugurated by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on April 9, 1968.
