MATANZAS, Cuba, Jan 5 (ACN) A thorough control of inbound travelers is one of the measures implemented in the province of Matanzas to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to local authorities.
Provincial governor Mario Sabines Lorenzo said that right now there are 579 tourists staying in local rental homes whose health and habits must be constantly supervised. He also referred to the efforts to enforce the health protocols in those rentals, as well as in hotels, in light of the rise in the daily number of infections.
“As in the rest of Cuba,” Sabines Lorenzo pointed out, “the province of Matanzas will implement new international sanitary control regulations, including the mandatory submission of a vaccination certificate upon the tourist’s arrival and the conduction of more random PCR tests.”
Liván Izquierdo Alonso, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, referred to the need for special attention to active clusters and to the importance of community work in terms of primary health care, which plays a key role in the fight against the so-called invisible enemy.
He also called the population to keep observing measures such as social distancing, neglected to the point that the number of new cases in the province has been on the rise in the last few days.
Edilberto Casanova Armenteros, provincial director of Education, remarked that the resumption of the school year on Tuesday came along with inspections of the education centers to prevent contagion among students and have a successful educational process.
