Nobel Peace Prize Laureate demands an end to the blockade of Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 28 (ACN) The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and prominent Argentine intellectual, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, demanded the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba in an open letter to the President of the United States (U.S.), Joseph Biden.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry's website Cubaminrex, the letter sent by Pérez Esquivel to Biden points out that the world needs new ways of coexistence, peace and cooperation.

In addition, the renowned activist and human rights defender ratified that Cuba is not a threat to U.S. security.

"Peace is not given as a gift, it is built with the will and effort of individuals and peoples, and it is up to you as Head of State of a leading country in the world to be a builder of it, to seek the good, to respect human rights and the rights of peoples to their self-determination and sovereignty.

Unfortunately, these rights have been systematically violated by the governments of your nation up to the present", the Argentine intellectual pointed out.

Cubaminrex details that in his letter, Pérez Esquivel points out that he joins many other organizations around the world that are asking the U.S. government to open its mind and heart to solve the issue of the blockade against Cuba.

He also remarked that Biden as president of the United States has the responsibility to find ways and strengthen the life and development of the peoples, so that there is coexistence and mutual respect.

Born in Buenos Aires in 1936, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel received the Nobel Prize in 1980, on behalf of Latin America, for his commitment to the defense of democracy and human rights in the face of military dictatorships in the region.
