
Havana, Dec 20 (ACN) Cuba reinforced the prevention and fight against trafficking in persons and related crimes despite the impact by the COVID-19 pandemic on the country, according to an annual report on the issue.
According to the report, posted on the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website, Cuba kept zero tolerance against any form of trafficking in persons and assures that the implementation of the local action plan to prevent and fight trafficking in persons and to protect the victims is a main tool in the concerted action between the Cuban state and civil society organizations.
In order to strengthen prevention of trafficking in persons, Cuba has backed cooperation actions and the exchange of information with international organizations, such as the INTERPOL, the UN system, and European and Latin American agencies in the field to favor prevention and control of the problem.
The previous report reads that specialized assistance was provided to trafficking in person victims as well as persons in vulnerable situation, particularly young kids, women, senior citizens and people with physical disabilities.
Final considerations disclose a low incidence of this kind of crime in Cuba due to the action of the zero tolerance policy implemented in the country plus the absence of organized crime organizations in the island nation.
