The Jose Marti Memorial will host Monday the first activities planned for the day, whose welcoming remarks were given by Luisa Campos, director of the Literacy Campaign Museum, and Yoel Cordovi, president of the Institute of History of Cuba.

Several panels will be held during the day, the first of them with testimonies of the impact of the campaign, as well as round table II: Continuity of the Campaign, which includes presentations such as The Campaign dresses up as a people. There will also be a screening of film clips on the Literacy Campaign, followed by the awarding of the Literacy Historical Memory contest, in charge of Yoel Cordovi.

The second part of the academic-cultural day "60 years of the Literacy Campaign" will take place tomorrow at Casa de las Americas, with other proposals that will provide a closer look at this important event in the history of Cuban education and culture.

In January 1961, the Literacy Campaign officially began, a program promoted by the Cuban Revolution that made it possible to eradicate illiteracy in the country and allowed universal access to different levels of education free of charge.

On December 22 of that year, Cuba was proclaimed an Illiteracy Free Territory.
