HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 15 (ACN) The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) assured that in the country there is not and never will be tolerance to gender violence and other behaviors associated with it.
According to an article published in Granma newspaper, in view of the recent testimonies of women who were sexually abused, the organization pointed out that these are very painful stories.
In this sense, it affirmed that it is up to them and to the Cuban justice system to carry out the legal process with sufficient evidence until the truth of such unfortunate events is found.
The FMC reaffirmed that the various legal instruments in force in the country make it possible to confront gender violence and other behaviors associated with it.
They mentioned that the most tangible legal expression, which summarizes the feelings and political will of the Cuban State to confront violence against women in all its breadth, is found in the text of the Constitution of the Republic.
They also highlighted Presidential Decree 198, which contains the National Program for the Advancement of Women, and the recent Comprehensive Strategy for the Prevention and Attention to Gender Violence and Violence in the Family Scenario, which aims to ensure a comprehensive and integrated response for the prevention and effective attention to gender-based violence.
The Federation of Cuban Women and its network of women's and family counseling centers condemn all types of violence and, in the face of these criminal manifestations, provides victims with support, accompaniment and guidance. The FMC does not judge or punish: it educates and works for a more just society, the organization declared.
And they emphasized that they keep their doors open to all those who, being victims of gender violence, need to be heard and accompanied in this process.
