GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) More than 200 families from Guantanamo living in areas of the Turquino Plan were benefited this year with the construction of houses that combine masonry and wood in the walls, zinc roofing and polished cement floor.
These buildings, which are classified as type III, have two or three bedrooms, dining room, kitchen, living room, bathroom and porch, and were built by their owners with the contribution of state entities that guarantee part of the resources, as a solution to the problem of the housing deficit due to the shortage of materials such as cement and steel.
Hortensio Romero Rivero, the official in charge of the State Housing Construction Program in Guantanamo, told Venceremos newspaper that saving resources and manufacturing materials taking advantage of the potential of each municipality are benefits of this alternative, which is also aimed at stabilizing the labor force in the highlands and stimulating food production in the mountains.
The shortage of resources, taking into account the effects caused by COVID-19, which has damaged the world economy, in addition to the tightening of the U.S. blockade against Cuba, also affected the subsidized housing plan, prioritized in the province, of which only 100 of the 1,049 planned were built, Romero Rivera remarked.
