Santiago de Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) 59-years-old Cuban citizen Eliecer Howard, who dedicated part of his life to sports, visited the Santiago de Cuba’s Santa Ifigenia cemetery to pay homage to Fidel Castro, on the fifth anniversary of his passing.
After a 75-kilometer walk from his hometown Chivirico, in the municipality of Guama, the Santiago de Cuba citizen said that any effort can be done for Fidel, because his life and work went beyond any limits.
Howard has made such walks on historic Cuban dates; he told reporters that in 2017 he made his first walk from Fidel’s hometown Biran in Holguin province up to the cemetery, which he took as his commitment and his own way to pay tribute to the best disciple of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti.
The man said his long walks express his own gratitude to Fidel for his decision to favor Cuban farmers and providing humble and rural families with the chance to become professionals in the fields of health, education, science and sports.
This “walk for hope” also comes on behalf of those who live in coastal areas in settlements developed by the Cuban Revolution with the everlasting imprint of Fidel as these communities count on healthcare centers, schools and cultural centers, he said.
“As long as I’m healthy I will keep walking many kilometers in homage to our Commander-in-Chief though I know that this will never pay for his great and valuable work for Cuba and the world,” said Howard. (Photos at fotos.acn.cu)
