HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 26 (ACN) Josep Borrell, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain reiterated today in a meeting at UN with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Spain's rejection of the activation of Title III of the US Helms-Burton Act.
At the meeting, both ministers addressed bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of interest during the ministerial week of the UN General Assembly, cubaminrex website reported.
Regarding the U.S. law, Borrell said "that discourages and criminalizes trade and investment by companies from third states, also causing serious harm to the welfare of the Cuban population.
In a statement sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union (EU) and Cooperation to the official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it added that "the Government of Spain and the EU reject these unilateral coercive measures contrary to international law, and work together with the European Commission, the other Member States and other international partners in adopting the necessary measures to overcome this decision".
The Cuban minister explained during the meeting the recent state of economic development in Cuba including information on the energy issue and both diplomats agreed "to continue working to strengthen bilateral relations".
In that sense, in October Minister Borrell will travel to Cuba "to hold bilateral consultations in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the President of the Government during his visit to Cuba," the official statement reads.
