HAVANA, Cuba, May 18 (ACN) The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People's (ICAP) reiterated on Friday its support to the Nicaraguan people and government headed by President Daniel Ortega in face of right wing attempts to destabilize the Central American nation.
During the solidarity event at ICAP headquarters in Havana, its President Fernando Gonzalez expressed the support of the Cuban people, government and Communist Party to Nicaragua where last April 18th a series of violent protests against a Social Security reform proposal, which was later repealed.
The Hero of the Republic of Cuba denounced the information manipulation by the mass media of what is happening in Nicaragua and praised the wisdom and patience of President Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo in their response to the destabilizing attempts.
A declaration issued by ICAP expressed support to the efforts of Nicaragua to restore peace in the country through dialog.
It also ratifies support for the principles of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Peace Zone, signed by the Heads of State and Government in January of 2014.
Nicaragua's ambassador in Cuba, Luis Cabrera explained about the events that initiated the violent protests in his country, which was started by private university students that also used weapons and attacked Sandinista sites and symbols.
Despite the violence of the groups, the Nicaraguan government's orientation was no police confrontation or respond by force, said the diplomat and assured that a national dialog table for stability, justice and peace was installed on Wednesday.
Cuba's Foreign Ministry denounced the destabilizing attempts against Nicaragua last April 29th and urged to respect the Central American nation's sovereignty.
Through a communique published on its website, the Cuban Foreign Ministry condemned the destabilization campaign against a country that "lives in peace and where they have achieved important social programs and advances and security in favor of its people".
The International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity of the Peoples and organizations, Parties and solidarity movements from Palestine, Italy, Chile, Colombia and Puerto Rico expressed their support for Managua.
