Summit of the Americas not too important for Peruvians in the streets

Summit of the Americas not too important for Peruvians in the streetsLIMA, Peru, Apr 10 (ACN) To what Summit are you coming, what Summit is that, boss? They may seem like questions, but in reality they are the answers of the ordinary Peruvian who does not see his day of subsistence disturbed, three days before the opening of the VIII Summit of the Americas in this capital city.

Lima keeps its daily rhythm of infernal traffic, horns honking, street vendors and car window cleaners crowding any corner, waiting for vehicles to stop and offer their goods or services, and waiting for a few coins in return, sometimes with kindness, sometimes with desperate stalking.
Only in the media there is talk of the hemispheric meeting of leaders that will take place on Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th. Just a sign outside the Jorge Chávez International Airport welcomes those who will participate in the VIII Summit; in the city there is no reminder that there will be such a meeting.
What the almost 10 million inhabitants of this city do know is that the days of the meeting will be holidays, to try to lighten the chaotic traffic in the city and make possible the mobility of the 30 delegations that have confirmed their participation, and the 21 heads of state or government who have already said they will be here.
Right now Peruvians are more concerned about the administration of the new president of the nation, Martín Vizcarra, than for the reasons that led his predecessor to resign just a few weeks ago.
Vizcarra sent a message of reconciliation on Monday, to heal, he said, the profound differences around the fundamental theme of the meeting: corruption, which paradoxically cost Pedro Pablo Kuczynski his job.
Vizcarra's call has been clear: a common front between society and government to eliminate corruption, no matter who is to take the fall.
The Peruvian government is trying to show a united country, where there is no impunity and where there is governance; however, there is more talk in the media about what would be the central theme of the meeting, which is far from the publicly proposed objectives and which are more in line with the agenda that the United States and some of its allies have defined: to attack the Bolivarian Venezuela that will not be present after the Lima Group's decision to disinvite President Nicolás Maduro.
The television programs of debate on the supposed humanitarian crisis in Venezuela seemed to be a relay race and the denigration of President Maduro a card that time and again comes out, and is used, without modesty or ethics, by the professionals of the media.
The people on the street are fed with the hope of headlines like the newspaper Voces which assures the city will benefit from the 8th Summit with revenues between 70 and 80 million dollars from the demand for three, four and five star hotels to accommodate between five thousand and six thousand people.
Carlos Canales, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), refers to the hemispheric meeting as a great showcase for tourism in the city of Lima and Peru.
A vision that the Cuban press delegation was able to feel when they visited the Ministry of Culture's facilities in the district of San Borja, where a press room was set up on the first floor of the Kuelap Tower with a capacity for 400 jobs and which, in a rare event, will have another room nearby for the "entertainment of journalists", according to the organizers for "when the professionals have nothing to do".
An area that is actually for the promotion of Peru's star products and the tasting of typical dishes, as well as a videogame room, were created for the two thousand accredited journalists, 700 of them foreigners.
On Monday afternoon, the rehearsals of police groups could already be observed, which will reach 16,000 who will provide security during the Summit of the Americas, with the characteristic anti-riot gear.
The VIII Summit of the Americas, meanwhile, has already opened its doors with the holding of the indigenous forum, which will continue on Tuesday with the civil society forum, where Cuba has an important participation with a delegation of 68 representatives of the more than two thousand non-governmental organizations of the island in Coalition 15 called For an Inclusive and Respectful World.
