Twenty-one heads of state will participate in the Summit of the Americas

LIMA, Peru, Apr 10 (ACN) A total of 21 heads of state have so far confirmed their attendance at the 8th Summit of the Americas, to be held in Lima, Peru, which will also be attended by representatives from 31 states in the region.

Democratic governance and the fight against corruption will be the focus of discussions at the hemispheric meeting on Friday 13 and Saturday 14.
At the same time, the Peruvian capital will host meetings between trade unions, indigenous organizations and representatives of civil society, as well as businessmen and parliamentarians, prior to the Summit.
In statements to the local newspaper La Tribuna, the Peruvian government said that at least 2,000 people will attend the preparatory meetings and that an equal number of journalists will cover the events.
The Lima Declaration, which will be approved by the heads of state, proposes, among other things, to establish more flexible judicial cooperation and greater exchange, with a view to tackling corruption and impunity for those who commit it.
Peru is one of the countries hardest hit by this phenomenon in the region, since most of its leaders since 1990 have been prosecuted or investigated for corruption cases.
