HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 2 (acn) US speedboat pilots Nigel Hook and Jay Johnson will seek to set new world speed records next August 17 on the Key West-Havana and Havana-Key West routes.
The project has been dubbed by Hook "two by one", as it aims setting two global records, both on the going and back travels.
Cuba´s Hemingway International Yacht Club stated that this new attempt, as well as the recent ones using surfboards and kayaks by young American guys - carried out last June and July respectively - highlight the bonds of friendship between the peoples from these two nations.
The first speed record between Cuba and USA (Miami-Havana) was established in 1922, the second one (Miami-Havana) took place in 1958 and the most recent one, between Key West and Havana, was set on 1 August, 2015, by German Roger Klüh on board of the 'Apache Star', with time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
This attempt will sponsored by the International Powerboat Federation (UIM by its French acronym), the American Power Boat Association (APBA) and the Cuba´s Hemingway International Yacht Club.
