HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (acn) Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of victims of human trafficking, especially women and children, will visit Cuba from April 10 to 14.
According to a note from the Cuban Foreign Ministry, during her stay in the country, the UN representative will carry out activities that will allow her to confirm the commitment of the Caribbean island to the fulfillment of its international obligations towards this global problem.
Cuba acts on this crime based on a policy of Zero Tolerance, and focuses on prevention and confrontation, in addition to providing protection to victims, adds the note.
The website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published the report on the legal-penal confrontation of trafficking in persons and other crimes related to exploitation, or sexual abuse, of 2016.
The text mentions the increase in Cuba's cooperation with other nations, as it is a State Party to the various international legal instruments signed on the subject.
It also details the various instruments to deal with trafficking in persons and associated behaviors such as procurement, prostitution, pornography and child prostitution, as well as other forms of exploitation or sexual abuse.
The Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations Office at Geneva recently submitted to the Special Rapporteur the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons and Protection of Victims for the period 2017-2020.
The Plan confirms Cuba's commitment and efforts to complying with the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, in addition to other human rights obligations.
