Ecuadorians voted to continue with their Social Revolution

Ecuadorians voted to continue with their Social RevolutionHAVANA, Cuba, Apr 3 (ACN) The Ecuadorian people on Sunday went to the polls and decided to keep deepening their social revolution, pioneered for over 10 years by Rafael Correa. Presidential candidate Lenín Moreno, with a majority of votes, now leads the social process.

Following the counting of 94,18 percent of the ballots in a run-off election, Moreno got 51.07 percent of the valid votes against right wing coalition candidate Guillermo Lasso who took 48, 93 percent.

Moreno, a representative of the Alianza Pais party, was Ecuador´s vice-president during the first term of office of President Correa and he was also UN Secretary General´s Special Envoy on Disability and Accessibility between 2014 and 2016.

The president-elect thanked for the support of the people and said that he comes in a moment for unity and harmony among all Ecuadorians.

The victory of Alianza Pais party marks the continuity of Latin American progressive movements, precisely at times when the regional right strengthens attacks against sovereign social processes, such as that unfolding in Venezuela.
