HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 28 (acn) The 25th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government will open sessions Saturday in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia and it is expected to issue a declaration in support of the Colombian peace process.
The peace process will be addressed during the Summit by President Juan Manuel Santos, who is expected to refer to a new agreement, which will come out of new talks between the government and the FARC guerrillas in Havana, according to Colombian media.
President Santos expects that the new accord be ready in November and he does not discard the holding of a new plebiscite in the country, according to Colombia´s Caracol radio.
The peace declaration would first be considered by the experts, adopted by the foreign ministers, who are gathering today in Cartagena, and finally be approved by the heads of state and government at the high-level segment of the Ibero-American Summit.
Some of the heads of state slated to attend the summit include Ecuador´s Rafael Correa, Guatemala´s Jimmy Morales, Panama´s Juan Carlos Varela, Peru´s Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Chile´s Michelle Bachelet and Dominican Republic´s Danilo Medina.
On Friday, Cartagena´s Conventions Center will also host the 11th Ibero-American Entrepreneurial Forum, with the attendance of some 600 business persons and the last activity on the agenda will be the presentation of the report entitled Economic Prospects for Latin America in 2017, which was prepared by international economic organizations.
