HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (acn) The Cuban people have pushed social initiatives in Venezuela, said that country's Education Minister Rodulfo Pérez as he stressed the island's role in the unfolding of the Bolivarian Revolution.
International solidarity and the support of the Cuban government and people have been very important for our social project, said the official as he recalled last Monday's signing in Caracas of the renewal of accords under the Cuba-Venezuela Treaty with 10 priority areas, one of which is education.
In the area of education, the minister stressed the literacy program, known in Venezuela as Mission Robinson, which helped wipe out illiteracy in the country, as acknowledged by the United Nations' Education, Science and Culture Organization, UNESCO.
"Our reality now suggests the combination of educative and production projects," said the minister as he recalled that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro decided to launch a new program known as Mission Robinson II, in the production sector.
Over 180 thousand citizens are now involved in the project to reach the sixth grade while working in production areas like agriculture and fishing.
As to the Cuba-Venezuela bilateral treaty, the minister said that it is an important event amidst the changes taking place in Latin America with its core in the unity of all nations.
