HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 4 (acn) Another group of Cuban migrants, originally stranded in Costa Rica, are arriving in El Salvador on Thursday in their route to meet their American Dream, encouraged by the US dry-foot, wet foot policy and the Cuban Adjustment Act.
Following a pilot plan implemented on January 12, the over 7 thousand Cubans that legally left the island to make an irregular trip to US territory will begin to be transferred by groups on the scheduled route.
According to the Salvadorian Foreign Ministry, the transfer program includes two weekly flights starting Thursday and to be repeated Feb 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25.
The first group of 180 migrants were flown January 12 from Costa Rica to El Salvador and then by bus to Guatemala, to make it later on Mexican territory towards the US border.
The government headed by President Salvador Sanchez Ceren has affirmed its commitment to guarantee an orderly and safe transfer of the Cubans.
Meanwhile, Salvadoran foreign minister Hugo Martinez has reiterated that the US Cuban Adjustment Act and the dry-feet, wet-feet policy is a double-standard that grants special benefits to those Cubans who make it to the US.
Martinez said that under the universal human rights principles the destination country should implement a single migration policy for all emigrants.
