HAVANA, Cuba, Dec. 31 (acn) The government of El Salvador has reiterated its readiness to contribute to the solution of the complex situation of a group of Cubans who for more than a month stay in Costa Rica.
According to Prensa Latina, El Salvador has proposed, in different diplomatic and technical meetings, alternatives for solution and has also expressed its willingness to contribute to find a way out in this case in particular, asserts an official communiqué by the Salvadoran Foreign Ministry.
The latter informs that on December 28, "during a meeting held in Guatemala City, the execution of a pilot plan involving El Salvador and other transit countries was assessed."
The willingness to facilitate the orderly and safe transit of these emigrants, according to the logistical and operational capacities available in the country, was again expressed in Guatemala, adds the text.
This effort of El Salvador for the solution of this irregular migratory situation is in line with the call made recently by Pope Francis, in his message of December 27, concludes the brief official communique.
Cubans who legally left the island to several Latin American countries arrived in November in Costa Rica through the border with Panama, in an attempt to move by land to the United States, where laws protect their entry irregularly since 1966 under the Cuban Adjustment Act.
So far governments like Nicaragua, Belize and Guatemala have denied these people pass on their way to the United States, an issue addressed on Monday at the aforementioned meeting in the Guatemalan capital.
