HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 8 (acn) Cuban Science, Technology and Environment minister Elba Rosa Perez reaffirmed in Paris her nation´s commitment to the success of Climate Conference underway in the French capital, which is expected to reach a fair, balanced and far-reaching accord.
Speaking at the high-level segment of the conference, Perez said Cuba is fully willing to contribute to the hopes of current and future generations on the current forum, which is being attended by representatives of 195 countries of the world.
The forum has reached advancement, but there are still important challenges on key issues like finances, technology transfer and capacity creation, said the Cuban representative as cited by PL news agency.
Developing nations have expressed flexibility and their vocation for consensus, but they have not been always reciprocated by developed countries, she noted and added that other sensitive issues for developing nations, such as the ones referring to losses and damage have not been negotiated.
According to the Cuban representative, there is need for strong commitment and political will to reach the accord that the world is looking for. She said that Cuba is optimistic towards the achievement of such agreement, but it requires harder work, firmness and flexibility.
The UN Conference on Climate Change (COP21) opened its second week of ministerial sessions calling for an effective accord that puts a limit to global warming.
