HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 24 (acn) The Simon Bolivar training ship of the Venezuelan Navy docked in Havana's port on June 24, where it will stay until June 28 as part of its crossing to mark the 10th anniversary of Petrocaribe's energy cooperation agreement, the Juventud Rebelde newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Venezuelan Captain Alcides Fernandez told the press that the vessel left the port of La Guaira, in the Venezuelan state of Vargas, on May 23 and that the ship has already visited Barbados and Belize, in the first stage of its voyage.
The Simon Bolivar's voyages are aimed at training Bolivarian Navy cadets in sea skills, hold meetings with cadets from other countries and strengthen their practices and knowledge, as well as to honor the achievements of the Bolivarian Revolution, a project of political changes born 16 years ago under the leadership of Commander Ho Chavez, pointed out the Bolivarian military.
The vessel was officially received by Cuban authorities in the morning of June 24 and its crew will meet with some of the island's authorities and will visit places of historic and cultural interest.
After its stay in Cuba, it will leave for Jamaica to return to Venezuela on July 24 and participate in the military parade held every year in that country.
In the second stage, it will set sail to Honduras, Bahamas, the port of the city of Santiago de Cuba and Saint Lucia, to then return to the port of La Guaira on September 26.
