HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 30 (ACN) Cuban authorities hailed today the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Saigon in Vietnam, an event that put an end to the armed conflict and allowed national reunification in the Asian country.
Manuel Marrero, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Prime Minister, highlighted the relevance of this victory, stating that it opened the way to peace and reunification of this nation, which he described as Cuba's sister.
Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, also highlighted the heroism of the Vietnamese people, the leadership of Ho Chi Minh and the firmness of the Vietnamese Communist Party (VCP), as decisive factors in the victory achieved on April 30, 1975.
We congratulate the VCP on the 49th anniversary of the Reunification of the Nation, wrote the Cuban party leader, while stressing that the socialist path traced in that country after the victory has allowed peace and development.
With the liberation of the southern territories, the first great defeat of the United States in Asia after World War II was achieved in Vietnam.
