Cuba attends meeting on integrated energy projects

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 30 (ACN) A Cuban representation discussed in Uruguay with colleagues from 15 nations of the region in the 1st coordination meeting of the project called Support for the elaboration of integral energy plans on climate, soil, energy and water in Latin America and the Caribbean.

PhD in Sciences David Perez Martin, from the Center for Information Management and Energy Development (Cubaenergia), traveled to Montevideo to attend the meeting, reported to the Cuban News Agency Helen Rodriguez, Communication specialist of that entity.

Perez Martin received there the status of national counterpart of that initiative corresponding to the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (Arcal), sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Its objective is to contribute to and strengthen sustainable energy development in Latin America and the Caribbean through the use of energy planning tools and comprehensive studies on each of its resources.

Delegates from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela also attended the recent event.

Both now and in the future, energy studies integrated with climate, water and land use are particularly necessary and essential to strengthen technical capacities, with a view to moving towards sustainable development in the region.
