HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 17 (ACN) While speaking at the high-level panel of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development, under way in Geneva, Switzerland, Cuba's First Deputy Minister of Communications Wilfredo Gonzalez Vidal appealed to the United Nations for funding, technology transfer, and capacity building mechanisms for the benefit of developing countries and to strengthen international cooperation in those fields.
González Vidal urged industrialized countries to fulfill their commitments and provide new, additional and predictable financial resources for the construction of the Global Information Society on a non-discriminatory basis.
During the meeting, which follows up on the results of the World Summit on the Information Society, the Cuban official recalled that the said event called on States to refrain from taking unilateral measures in disagreement with international law and the United Nations Charter, as such policies hinder the full socioeconomic development and the well-being of the population in the aforesaid countries.
