Havana, Feb 23 (ACN) Cuba’s Foreign Ministry sent the Guyanese people and government a message of congratulation on their country’s National Independence Day.
On its Twitter account, the Foreign Ministry ratified Cuba’s determination to keep strengthening bilateral bonds of friendship and cooperation, which both nations have shared for over 50 years.
On December 8th, 1972, Cuba established full diplomatic relations with the first four English-speaking Caribbean nations to get their independence: Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad-Tobago, which set up the Caribbean Community—CARICOM—in July 1973.
Guyana is a country on the northern Atlantic coast of South America with dense tropical forests; its official language is English and shares tight cultural links with other Caribbean basin countries.
In 1966, Guyana was no longer a British colony, but it was considered really independent from the British Crown in February 23, 1970, date which the Guyanese people commemorates as Day of the Republic. L
