US cities demand medical cooperation with Cuba



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 12 (ACN) A total of 11 U.S. cities have requested to establish medical cooperation with Cuba, an official from the Caribbean nation's foreign ministry said today on Twitter.

The message shared by Johana Tablada, deputy director general for the United States, specifies that the city councils approved resolutions to also benefit from the achievements of Cuba before the COVID-19.

On Sunday, Jose Angel Portal, Cuba's minister of public health, received a delegation from the U.S. Congress that is on an official visit to Havana, made up of congressmen James McGovern, chairman of the Rules Committee of the House of Representatives, and members of that body Mark Pocan and Troy Carter.

As reported on Twitter by the Cuban minister, during the meeting he talked about the experiences of the national health system, and especially about what his country has done during the confrontation with COVID-19.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban communist party and president of the country, also held an exchange with the U.S. delegation on Saturday.

The President emphasized the harmful impact of Washington's economic, commercial and financial blockade and the maximum pressure measures imposed by the previous administration, which are still in force.

In a respectful and transparent atmosphere, Diaz-Canel reiterated Cuba's willingness to move towards a respectful and constructive relationship with the United States.
