HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 21 (acn) Cuban Denia Caballero won the title in the women´s discus throw event at the 15th Ibero-American Athletics Meeting of Huelva, Spain, where she also scored the world lead of the season with 69.20 meters.
Caballero, Beijing 2015 world champion and Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, surpassed herself by beating the 68.46m achieved last month, which was until yesterday the best record of the year.
The also Cuban Yaime Perez (67.27 m) escorted her in the podium, while Brazilian Andressa de Morais (63.90) ranked third.
A few days ago, on June 16 in the sixth stop of the IAAF Diamond League based in Rabat, Morocco, they both made the 1-2 with Perez as winner with 68.28m; while Caballero (65.94) was the runner-up, leaving the third seat to Croatian ace Sandra Perkovic (63.97).
The Caribbean nation earned three other crowns in this meeting through women Roxana Gomez and Zurian Hechavarria and man Maikel Massò, in addition to a silver medal by the also woman Liadagmis Povea.
Gomez won the 400m race with time of 52.37 seconds and Hechavarria scored her season best (55.40) to prevail in the 400m hurdles, according to the official website of the contest.
Massò was the most discreet with only 7.83 meters in the long jump, far from his real possibilities, while Povea (14.45 meters) was surpassed by Venezuelan world champion Yulimar Rojas (15.06), who thus set a national record and personal best of the season.
