HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (acn) With White pieces and as rival of German Dennis Wagner, Cuban Carlos Daniel Albornoz will debut today in the Accentus Young Master 2019, which brings together 10 young talents of chess in the Swiss town of Bad Ragaz.
At just 18 years of age, the Cuban current national senior champion has an ELO of 2.577 points, while his opponent, who is 22, owns 2.579 units and a little more international experience, including the Gibraltar Festival 2015, where he finished sixth.
Albornoz arrived three days ago to the Swiss city and according to the schedule announced by the organizers, this will be a nine-round tournament without resting days.
The first seed of the contest is Russian Nikita Petrov (2.585), who is followed by Wagner, Albornoz and local Noel Studer (2.494), youngest GM of his country.
The list also includes Germans Luis Engel (2.472) and Lev Yankelevich (2.445), Austrian Dominik Horvath (2.419) and Swiss Oliver Kurmann (2.445), Aurelio Colmenares (2.341) and Theo Stijve (2.339).
