HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (acn) Cuban WGM Yaniet Marrero appears third in the 2018 Women´s American Continental Chess Championships, which grants in the Colombian city of Envigado one ticket for the next women's World Champ.
The standings is headed by Peruvian WGM Deisy Cori, who beat Cuban WIM Lisandra Llaudy, leader until yesterday, in a demonstration of "order" as she is the main favorite to the crown by being the first seed of the tournament.
In this seventh round, Marrero defeated her compatriot WFM Yoana Gonzalez and now amounts five points, only half a unit behind Cori, while Llaudy descended to sixth place.
Other Cubans attending this contest, WGM Maritza Arribas, WIM Tania Miranda and Gonzalez, all total four points and rank 9-10-11, in that order.
The group of Cuban players is completed by young WIM Ana Flavia Roca who amounts 3.5 units and appears 18th in the standings.
Today, in the eighth round, the most interesting matches will be between Marrero and the Cuban-born Paraguayan WIM Jennifer Perez, who ranks 5 th with 5 points, while Cori will face Ecuadorian Anahi Ortiz, second also with 5 units.
The 2018 Women´s American Continental Chess Championship is a 9-Round Swiss tournament which, in addition to the ticket to the next women's WC, also qualifies for direct titles and norms, including the WGM title for 1st place and the WIM title for 2nd and 3rd seats.
