HAVANA, Cuba, May 25 (acn) The 2018 FIE Grand Prix competition in Men´s and Women´s Epee of Cali, Colombia, kicks off today with the presence of several of the best athletes the world, and Cuba will participate with four competitors in each sex.
The contest, which runs until May 27th, will be used for the Cubans as warm-up for the coming Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla, also on Colombian soil.
The Cuban men´s squad is headed by Yunior Reytor, runner-up of the Vancouver World Cup 2017, who appears 86th in the world ranking, according to the FIE official website.
In addition to Reytor, the other men are Reyner Enriquez, 205th in the universal list, Ringo Quintero (299) and Luis Patterson (319), the latter recent winner of the national title.
The men's event of this competition will be attended by 124 athletes, led by Ukrainian Bogdan Nikishin, second seat in the world ranking.
On the other hand, the Cuban women´s team is made up by Yamilka Rodriguez, Jiselle Franco, current national champion, Yania Gavilan and Ceily Mendoza.
The latter, gold medalist in Veracruz 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, and Rodriguez, bronze medalist at the Guadalajara 2011 Pan-American Games, ranked first and second, respectively, in the Satellite tournament of Costa Rica a few days ago.
The women´s event of the Cali Grand Prix will be attended by 99 contestants, led by Hungarian Olympic monarch Emese Szasz-Kovacs, leader of the planet.
