Havana, Cuba, Apr 6 (acn) The President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez visited on Thursday sports facilities in Havana on the occasion of Day of Physical Activity.
The First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Havana, Mercedes Lopez Acea accompanied the Parliamentary President in visiting the Cuban Sports Information Resource Center (CRIDC), first attempt to recover and reorganize the existing information in the sector.
The site, inaugurated last January 6th in the Sports City provides a potential space that will allow specialists, researchers, trainers and athletes to accede any information of their interest with the objective of helping in the development of Cuban sports.
Mercedes Lopez Acea stressed the importance of encouraging the use of the platform in the education system once those 437 institutions are connected to the central network by the end of the year.
The government leaders attended the opening of the Biosaludable gymnasium in the Sports City and visited the Cuban Sports Research Center inaugurated earlier this year as the first installation in charge in studying physical culture in Cuba and the 14th in the world.
Antonio Eduardo Becali Garrido, President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) explained that the investigation carried out in the installation is put into practice to improve the athletes' performance.
Lazo Hernandez and Lopez Acea also visited the Ramon Fonst Polivalente Center and the Camilo Cienfuegos Sports Complex both in the Havana municipality of Plaza de la Revolucion and were inaugurated for a second time several years ago to verify the work aimed at promoting the development of sports in children.
In the Residency of the Cerro Pelado Higher Institute in the Formation of Athletes of High Performance both government officials saw the work underway in the reparation and maintenance that will allow sports figures to enjoy the quality of their residence that includes 128 rooms with total comfort.
The last installation both Lazo and Lopez visited was the Baragua Pool Complex which belongs to the ESFAAR Giraldo Cordova Cardin where work to improve the installation are underway and ready to finish by July in order for 70 swimmers and 18 divers to begin training.
In all of the sites visited, Lazo insisted in the costly investment dedicated to rescue the sports sites and services and the need for the athletes to be conscious of the country's efforts in offering quality resources at their service.
