HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 20 (acn) With the presence of thousands of fans, friends and relatives gathered at Augusto César Sandino stadium, Villa Clara´s first baseman Ariel Borrero Alfonso officially said goodbye to baseball.
Borrero retires after more than two decades of significant results, among which fans will surely remember with proud the crowns conquered with his team in the seasons 1994-1995 and 2012-2013.
He also won the titles in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 campaigns, but playing as reinforcement for Ciego de Ávila.
Batting average of .312, more than 1 100 RBIs and 412 doubles highlight in the statistics of his trajectory.
In Cuban national baseball series, he was the nineteenth player in arriving at the figure of two thousand hits, while producing 19 doubles in each of the seasons going from the period 2008-2009 and 2011-2012.
Member of the Cuban national team that won the silver medal in the 1 st World Baseball Classic, he was among the Cuban top three hitters in that contest.
In continuity to his legacy, Borrero gave a glove to Norel Gonzalez, current Villa Clara first baseman, while receiving recognitions by organisms and institutions of the province.
To perpetuate his legacy in the central province, starting today, a gigantography will be placed at Sandino ballpark.
