HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 10 (acn) Cuban Marlies Mejías finished 19th in the first of the five stages of the Colombia Tour, contest that will have a total of 335 kilometers and will be attended by more than 100 cyclists.
In representation - by invitation - of the continental club Weber Shimano Ladies Power, the athlete of the Cuban western province of Artemisa covered the 81 kilometers of this stage in 29 minutes and 56 seconds.
Mejías, seventh seat at Rio 2016 Olympic Games, will officially be part of that club from next January.
She is the top ranked runner of its squad, which also includes Colombians Jessenia Meneses and Rocío Parrado, and Argentine Cristina Greve.
The Weber Shimano Ladies Power is a project that brings together the best Latin American women´s road cycling exponents.
Press reports say that the winner of this time trial stage was Colombian Ana Cristina Sanabria (Bogota team) with time of 26.18 minutes.
The second stage will be run today and will cover 88.6 kilometers, between the towns of Buga and Zarzal.
Here are the next three stages:
-Third, Friday 11: Zarzal-Cartago. 91.3 Kilometers
- Wednesday, Saturday 12: Cartago- Anserma. 70 kilometers
- Fifth and last, Sunday 13: Supia-Manizales (Caldas). 81.7 kilometers
