HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 1 (acn) Cuban Yuniesky Quesada took advantage of his win in the seventh round to rank as leader of the Jugando en Concreto Chess Tournament, which ends today in Villahermosa, in the Mexican city of Tabasco.
Yuniesky drew with Peruvian Emilio Córdova in the morning, but then beat the local Guillermo Dominguez, reaching thus 5.5 points, same amount of the also Cuban Lazaro Bruzon, Dutch Sergey Tiviakov and American Julio Becerra, who appear second, third and fourth in that order although Quesada has better tiebreaker.
Bruzon was the solo leader before Monday's double program, but he signed peace with Becerra and Cordova, performances that led to the quadruple tie, according to the site www.chess-results.com.
Tiviakov and Becerra´s promotions emerged from wins at the expense of Cubans Juan Carlos Obregon and Diasmany Otero, respectively.
With only two rounds left, logic indicates that the trophy will be in the hands of any of the current four leaders, who will face each other today: Bruzon versus Quesada, and Tiviakov against Becerra.
The final games will be known later as the event, which brings together 54 contestants, is ruled by the Swiss system.
Several Cuban players participating in this tourney will also attend in early December the Carlos Torre in Memoriam, with 84 players already registered, including American Alexander Onischuk, Russian Alexey Dreev and Peru's Jorge Cori, all with more than 2 600 ELO points, like Quesada and Bruzon.
