HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 31 (acn) With almost perfect performance of 4.5 points in five outings, Cuban Lazaro Bruzon appears as solo leader of the Jugando en Concreto chess tournament played in Villa Hermosa, Mexico.
Bruzon, first seed of the contest due to his 2 615 ELO units, achieves only one draw and four wins, the latter over the local Juan Carlos Gonzalez (2502), and his opponent today will be American Julio Becerra (2 550).
Becerra is one of the three men escorting Bruzon with four points and he ranks fourth by tiebreaker in a group that also includes Cuban Yuniesky Quesada (2638) and Peruvian Emilio Córdova (2637), second and third in that order.
Yesterday, Quesada drew precisely with Becerra while Cordova beat the also Cuban Yasser Quesada (2533).
The broad Cuban representation also includes Diasmany Otero (2430), Orlen Ruiz (2449), Alexey Fernandez (2442) and Aramis Alvarez (2472), all with 3.5 points and ranking 8, 10, 11 and 12 respectively.
Dutch Sergey Tiviakov (2590), who appears fifth with 3.5 units, is another visitor of level in an event that was planned to nine days by the Swiss system and is part of the winter circuit convened on Aztec soil.
The most important of these tournaments is the Carlos Torre in Memoriam, from December 15 to 20 in Merida City, and, so far, it is confirmed the attendance of seven players with more than 2 600 points, including Cubans Quesada and Bruzon.
