HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 23 (acn) The Cuban U17 men´s soccer team will face Jamaica today in one of the semifinal matches of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) finals, with stage in Trinidad and Tobago.
The squad coached by Rufino Sotolongo led undefeated qualifying group B with three wins, with balance of ten goals for and only two against. In their debut, they beat Curacao 2-1, then thrashed 6-0 Guadalupe and concluded the preliminary stage winning 2-1 over Suriname.
So far, the scoring leaders of the Cuban side have been the forward Brian Savigne, author of three goals, and midfielder Yandry Romero (2).
Meanwhile, Jamaica reached this stage after finishing second in Group A, with record of two wins and a draw against Haiti, which ended as leader of the poole with seven points like the Reggae Boys, but with better goal difference.
Jamaicans had balance of nine goals for and four against, with highlight for forwards Raewin Senior and Kaheem Parris, their offensive leaders.
In the other semifinal match, Haiti will face Curacao. The winners of this series will advance to the final on Sunday.
Cuba has attended two U17 World Cups: Scotland 1989 and Italy 1991, both times under coach Manuel Rodriguez.
