Cuban players win the title in Can-Am baseball leagueGRANMA, Cuba, Sep 20 (acn) Cuban baseball players Donal Duarte and Alexander Malleta won the title of the Canadian-American League (Can-Am) with the Ottawa Champions when beating the Rockland Boulders in the final.

The official website of the event shows that Malleta batted hits in every game of the final and had average of .429, result of nine hits in 21 at bats, with three doubles and as many RBIs.
In the semifinals against the New Jersey Jackals, he had BA of .313, product of five hits in 16 AB, scored two runs and drove in another one, with two walks and two strikeouts.
In the qualifying stage, the first baseman and DH participated in 79 matches, with BA of .238 and scored 32 runs, 53 RBIs, 15 doubles, 6 homers, 30 walks, 40 strikeouts and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, third baseman Duarte batted only for .223 in the final, with five hits in 23 at bats, but in the semifinals he was decisive with BA of .375, 6 for 16, with four runs scored and two walks.
In the regular season, Duarte was involved in 82 games, averaging .272, with 39 runs scored and 35 RBIs, 12 doubles, two homers, 39 walks, 10 stolen bases and 30 strikeouts.
According to the aforementioned source, the Ottawa Champions reached the title by winning 3-1 the fifth game, with excellent pitching performance by Austin Crismon, who allowed six hits throughout the game, with a total of 123 pitches, including 86 strikes.
The other two Cuban players who participated in the Can-Am league, Yurisbel Gracial and Roel Santos, reached the semifinals, as their team, the Quebec Capitales, suffered an unexpected defeat to the Rockland Boulders.
The infielder Gracial averaged .281 at that stage of the event, result of 8 hits in 21 at bats, with five runs scored and two RBIs, three doubles and a triple, and one walk.
He achieved the best performance among the four Cubans in the regular season, where he batted for .320 with 57 runs scored and 58 RBIs, 14 doubles, five triples, nine homers and 27 walks.
Meanwhile, the outfielder Santos averaged .300 in semifinals, with six hits in 20 at bats, scored eight runs, with a double and three walks.
In the qualifying phase, he had a BA of .301, with 46 runs scored and 34 RBIs, 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, 43 walks and 23 stolen bases.
