RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Sep 15 (acn) Cuban sprinter Leinier Savón will seek today the gold medal in the men´s 100m-T12 event, in the eighth competitive day of the 15th Paralympic Games taking place in this Brazilian city.
Savon is the favorite to get the golden metal due to besides being the current world champion; he scored the best time in semifinals s yesterday (10.89 seconds).
His main rivals in the final will be South African Jonathan Ntutu (11.10), Azeri Elmir Jabrayilov (11.27) and German Thomas Ulbrith (11.40).
In addition, the also Cuban sprinter Omara Durand, who will be in search of her third title in this contest as she already won the women´s 100 and 200 meters -T12 events, will be involved in the semifinal of the 400 meters, event in which she holds the world record with 53.05 seconds since last October in the Qatari capital.
The other Cuban with chance of reaching the final is the swimmer Juan Castillo, in the men´s 100 meter butterfly - S9.
Cuba also competed yesterday through the swimmer Yunerki Ortega, who finished seventh in the men´s 100 meters butterfly S11 with time of 1:12.41 minutes.
There were also present by the Caribbean island the cyclist Damian Lopez, 12th in the men´s time trial C4 with 43: 48.13 minutes at Pontal circuit, and Ethiam Calderon, 10th with record of 6.58 meters in the men´s long jump F47 event.
