Cuban judoka Ortiz to semi-finals in RioRIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 12 (acn) Cuban Idalys Ortiz (+78 kg) advanced to semifinals of the judo tournament in the Olympic Games Rio 2016 that hosts this Brazilian city.

Ortiz beat by ippon Minjeong Kim, from South Korea, and keeps alive her aspirations to defend the Olympic crown won four years ago in the British capital of London.
In her first outing to the tatami, the representative of Cuba defeated also by Ippon Russian Ksenia Chibisova, who could barely make resistance to the Cuban athlete who owns two world titles.
Jappanese Kanae Yamabe, who defeated Dutch Tessie Savelkouls, will be Ortiz´s rival in semifinals today in the afternoon.
The also Cuban Alex Garcia (+100 kilos), will go to the repechage after losing in quarterfinals to Japanese Hisayoshi Harasawa.
Garcia had debuted at the Olympics with victory by Ippon over Mukhamadmurod Abdurakhmono, from Tajikistan, while in his second bout he beat Hungarian Barna Bor.
