HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 30 (ACN) One of the news of the year in Cuban sports was the qualification for the first time to the artistic swimming finals in a World Championship, a doubly historic event since it had a man.
In the 19th edition of the World Aquatic Sports Championships, Cuba made its debut with a masculine representative in the so-called synchronized swimming.
On June 24, Andy Manuel Avila and one of Cuba's artistic swimmers, Soila Carelys Valdes, reached the finals of the free routines with 64.5333 points in Budapest, Hungary.
Soila and Andy were the first Cubans to pass the elimination phase in the world championship in the Hungarian capital, after the participation of two other artistic swimmers and four swimmers in the Olympic pool (50 meters).
They showed their talents in the tough level, obtaining a better score than the 62.6229 obtained previously in the technical routine.
In October in Panama, Cuba won a silver medal and six bronze ones in the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Championship, the only way available for Cuban artistic swimmers to qualify for the 2023 regional multiple event.
