Thousands of visually impaired Cubans hold a jobHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (ACN) More than 3,400 people with visual disabilities in Cuba hold a job, it was reported at two national events on employment and accessibility, respectively, underway in the southern Cuban city of Cienfuegos.

These events, sponsored by the National Association for the Blind (ANCI), analyze the various forms of employment relationship of these people, such as ordinary employment, special workshops for the disabled and self-employment.

They also address the legislative shortcomings that hamper the development of people with disabilities, the preparation for work of schoolchildren with visual difficulties, access to technology and the adequacy of jobs.

Osmany Esquivel, head of the department of labor, sports and recreation of the ANCI, said that in the debates, which will run until October 14, half a hundred delegates from all over the country participate.

Thanks to the Revolution, blind and limited sight people today are able to raise their culture and access to jobs impossible for them, such as literacy, university careers and computer science, he said.
