GUANTÁNAMO, Cuba, Jan 20 (ACN) The implementation of a line of Efficient Microorganisms (EM) in three agricultural cooperatives in the province of Guantánamo is a significant contribution to local soil improvement, a program that involved the emblematic Center for Mountain Development (CDM).
MSc. Amaury Díaz Rodríguez, longtime researcher and current director of the CDM, referred to the technical training of the staff in the two plants in charge of producing these microorganisms.
Founded on February 3, 1994 on the initiative of the then Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Army General Raúl Castro, to develop sustainable technologies for the mountains, the CDM has successfully participated in dozens of national, regional and branch projects.
These EMs boast great microbial diversity that favors the germination of seeds and the flowering, growth and development of fruits and fight a number of phytopathogenic agents that cause plant disease, which is why the provincial science and production park and the Ministry of Science,
Technology and the Environment use them to produce food, tackle climate change, regenerate and restore the microbiological balance of the soils, and for purposes of pest control, among other applications.
They are also useful to fix atmospheric nitrogen, decompose organic wastes and residues, eliminate pathogens, recycle nutrients for crops and produce simple molecules for food consumption.
