Cuba and Denmark sign debt restructuring accordHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 24 (acn) Cuba and Denmark signed an accord on Thursday to restructure their bilateral debt as part of a multilateral agreement reached by Cuba and its creditors at the Paris Club.

The accord was penned in Havana by Government vice-president Ricardo Cabrisas and Danish ambassador to Cuba Henrik Bramsen Hahn. The two officials also stressed the significance of the accord for future bilateral financial, economic and commercial relations between their nations, Granma newspaper reported on Friday.

The Danish ambassador was accompanied by Carl Johan Mortensen, international policy advisor with the Danish Agency for Export Credits, who also signed, along with Cuban National Bank president Aleida Gonzalez, an agreement restructuring the short-term debt between the two institutions.

Last May, Cuba and Spain also reached an accord to restructure the mid and long-term debt of the island with the European nation, which were considered a contribution to the development of bilateral financial and trade relations.

That accord was also signed by Government vice-president Cabrisas and Spanish Economy minister Luis de Guindos, prior to the visit to the island by Spain´s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo.

The 13 Paris Club Cuba creditors decided in 2015 to restructure the island´s debt based on the condoning of interests based on the payment delay of the debt.

The Cuba creditors are Denmark, Spain, France, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Canada, Finland, Italy, Japan, Holland, Switzerland and the U.K.
