HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 15 (ACN) The global economy in times of crisis and its impact on Latin America was one of the main topics discussed at the 14th International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems, which gathered in Havana more than 500 delegates and guests from 42 countries.
Specialists from Mexico’s UNAM called the shots Wednesday with an analysis of the effects of the global crisis, holding that the United States is coping with its internal contradictions by inciting WWII-like military conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the confrontations in the Middle East and Taiwan.
Although some participants addressed what they called China's expansion in Latin America, others argued that, unlike the U.S., the People’s Republic contributes to the socioeconomic progress of developing nations and to improve their peoples’ quality of life, and this worries the empire.
As part of the conference, other commissions discussed the current situation of international monetary-financial relations, militarization and conflicts in the current crisis, the social responsibility of cooperative enterprises in the face of the current economic crisis, international trade, and e-commerce, among other topics.
The program also features a seminar delivered by experts from the Network for the Study of the World Economy (REDEM), the Society for Political Economy and Critical Thinking in Latin America (SEPLA) and the Working Group of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (GT CLACSO).
