MATANZAS, Cuba, Aug 29 (acn) Carilda Oliver, National Literature Award and outstanding Cuban poet, passed away this morning at 96 years of age in her house, site in which she lived most of her life and from where she wrote her prodigal work.
Author of about 40 books of lyric, epic and erotic poetry, translated into several languages, Oliver maintained in Matanzas, city where she was born on July 6, 1922 a literary gathering that was attended by renowned Cuban and foreign writers.
Among her most famous books we can find ¨Al Sur de mi garganta¨, written in 1949 that earned her the 1950 National Literature Award, ¨Canto a Martí, ¨ ¨Las sílabas y el tiempo, ¨ ¨Calzada de Tirry 81, ¨ ¨Los Huesos alumbrados, ¨ ¨Desaparece el polvo, ¨ ¨Se me ha perdido un hombre, ¨ ¨Error de magia, ¨ and ¨Tú eres mañana, ¨ among others.
Recognized as one of the most important female voices in contemporary Hispanic American literature, she earned countless awards by her extensive work, including the one granted by the publishing house ¨Frente Afirmacion Hispanista A.C¨ , from Mexico, and more recently the Excelencias Award.
Her corpse will be cremated and hers remains will be exposed in her colonial mansion in Matanzas city.
